As part of our focus upon Oracy, we highlighted the research and work of Robin Alexander and Neil Phillipson on Dialogic Teaching. There are straightforward adjustments that can be made to classroom practice to support students to discuss their learning in a collaborative and supportive environment where ideas can be challenged and further developed. Reflection upon my own practice is that there could be much more discussion as a powerful aid to learning and understanding and this should not be limited to subjects such as English or the Humanities where debate may be more natural.
