Supporting all students in our classes to understand and remember what we’re teaching is really complex and challenging. We think great teaching and learning that leads to long term learning happens when:
Sandringham teachers:
4.1 Explicitly revisit prior knowledge and skills to prevent forgetting
4.2 Provide highly developed explanations, step by step modelling and faded worked examples
4.3 Scaffold reading, written, oral or practical tasks to support students to practise applying their new knowledge and skills
4.4 Assess all students through the use of regular questioning and effective assessment tasks that promote higher order thinking and understanding
4.5 Provide timely feedback to students, enabling them to ReAct and improve their future work
4.6 Support students to become independent learners over time through removing scaffolds and guiding them on how to manage their own learning
